Ephel Duath - The Painter's Pallet

Another record I've abandoned for way too long. Ephel Duath are currently one of the worlds greatest experimental metal bands. Mixing the obligatory howling and guitar shredding with random bursts of free jazz and completely unexpected time changes. They have that rare talent of making a song sound a mixture of both improvised and carefully orchestrated.

I rediscovered "The Painter's Pallet" after hearing Ephel Duath's new album "Pain Necessary To Know" which, to be honest, left me feeling slightly cold and unimpressed. However it did remind me to give "The Painter's Pallet" another try and therefore rediscover that it's as strikingly out there as it was three years ago when the album first hit.

Yeah, that first album was just one long headache. Perhaps you should've done this post. You actually know what you're talking about.
