Red Sparowes - At The Soundless Dawn

So it's about that time of year that everyone starts churning out their obligatory "records of the year" lists and we here at Big Static aren't going to be an exception. I will personally give you tracks from at least ten lovely records that hit us this year, before the end of December. However I've already given you French Toast's and Bucket Full Of Teeth's amazing LPs as well as the Melt Banana singles collection (check the archives), so here with Red Sparowes, we already have four. I don't know if Kieran and Alice are going to contribute anything to this list, I don't pay them so they're not really obligated to do anything.

Anyhoo, Red Sparowes made the post-rock record of the year in my humble opinion. Over powering the new Sigur Ros and Pelican to snatch said title. Whilst Pelican were unable to top their previous LP and Sigur Ros managed to bore the living hell out of me, yet again, Red Sparowes managed to create a hugely sweeping and uplifting epic with this, their debut full length. The sound was kin to Explosions In The Sky's finer moments. Whilst they didn't at all sway away from the generic post-rock use of build ups being the primary template for all their songs, they did however prove that they are one of the best bands around doing it.

Buildings Began To Stretch Wide Across The Sky, And The Air Filled With A Reddish Glow..
