Shellac - 1000 Hurts

I'm well aware of the fact that I've already done a Shellac post. In fact, it was the first post I ever did. But who cares right? I've just got a huge boner for this band in general. Might even call them my favorite band, at the moment. I can also understand if you're an Albini obsessive and are wondering why I haven't posted anything by his other two bands Big Black and Rapeman. Well, I'll probably end up posting them too some time. Look forward to it.

So, what's so great about this band that the music would grab me so strongly? Everything about it to be honest. The heavy as hell guitar, the dark and powerful bass, with Albini's cold and awkward vocals over the top. The perfect recipe for a dark, sarcastic math-rock band. This record is a concept album of sorts. Albini's lyrics tell the story of a man who caught his wife cheating on him. Slightly bland plot you may be thinking. Well, that's what I was thinking until about twenty seconds in to the first song "Prayer To God" where Albini's character asks god to kill his cheating better half and give a more brutal death to her lover. The realism in his voice really makes the skin crawl. I've given you two other tracks from the album and damn it was hard to choose just two. Well, enjoy them and if you do go to the September section in the archives and you can get a few tracks from Shellac's "At Action Park". We're good to you.
